The Kamloops Exploration Group is a registered, volunteer-run, non-profit society that generally promotes and supports the interests of mining and prospecting for minerals, metals and petroleum. KEG is lead by an elected 12-member volunteer board and now has several thousand members.
Thanks to the profits generated from our conference and the vision and efforts of our board and membership, KEG has been able to develop a very well regarded outreach program over the past decade or so. We currently invest approximately $24,000 per year, plus countless volunteer hours, to deliver the following educational activities:
The KEG has engaged an Outreach Coordinator to inform and educate the general public and KEG members.
A huge thank you to Denis Delisle and Don Bouffard who volunteered their time to share their stories, minerals and experiences with the students of Salmon Arm Secondary who are interested in a career in mining.
The Challenge is a national contest endorsed by the Canadian Earth sciences community that asks students aged 9 - 14 years to discover the answers to these questions: What on Earth is in your stuff and WHERE on Earth does it come from? There are thousands of dollars in regional and national prizes to be won and you can enter as a group, an individual or a school. All you have to do is use your imagination and dig up some interesting facts about your stuff.
The 2012 WHERE Challenge runs from September 6, 2011 to March 1, 2012
